Oh no, Astro-viewers! How will Raye Gunn ever get out of this one? Tune in next week to find out! Until then, keep reaching for the stars! Cheesy pulp sci-fi done for Warren Ellis's Strange Machine project.

Entertainingly retro looking. Also very nice background, like the way you've used a different style to keep focus on your characters.

I love the retro style!! Reminds me of the old EC comics of old!!It could be a movie poster from the 50's.Perfectly done!!What medium did you use for this?It almost looks like pastels.

1 Jill Johansen replies: "thanks 2 It's mostly digital, actually. over a pencil line drawing. I just tend to go nuts with the custom brushes in Photoshop 12"

A squid in the dessert? Very strange!

I love the helmet, very good for protection in space, but mini skirt??!! It's perfect, just the sort of character design around in those movies, people were more interested in the characters body than anything else. Still true!! I love her pink hair too, again fits with the era: give them weird hair, and its the future! The squid creature remingds me of something I've seen recently, but I can't for the life of me remember when.....

:-) Jill Johansen replies: "That's why pulp sci-fi is so fun... it can make no sense... and it doesn't mattter! aesthetics trumps all!"

The name was the perfect touch.

The style is perfect, and humor is in full swing.

--And Raye's not half bad herself. hmmm...

Is there any chance of us seeing this formatted for user as a wallpaper? That would rock.

I love cheesy pulp sci-fi. John Carter, Warlord of Mars is the best! And Calvin and Hobbes' Spaceman Spiff... And this is a great homage to such great pulps (and pulp-parodies). I love the miniskirt on an alien world that requires a space helmet.

"Raye Gunn", eh? She needs Spaceman Spiff to back her up.
